Leaving Behind A Legacy That Conquers Adversity Long After You Are Gone

A dear friend of mine Josh Hinds author of It’s Your Life Live BIG sent out an email to his subscribers from getmotivation.com with a question that spawned some great thoughts and ideas of what’s to come in our digital age. Here is Josh’s email. The subject line was:

What are you putting in your mind?

[genericbox color=””]

Readers are leaders. I’ve heard that countless times. I think there’s truth in it. Yet, so few people make this truth work for them.

Hopefully that’s not the case for you.

I became a student of personal development, when at 15 I read my first book by Zig Ziglar. The book was called, Over the Top. The ideas in that book have continued to make a huge impact on my life over the years. I bet you have at josh-hinds-mp3least one book that’s had a similar impact on your life, right? If so, I’d like to hear what book (or books) has had an impact on you. I would also love to hear what stood out about it. I’m always looking for my next great read 🙂

Years ago, when I first read that book by Zig, I heard one quote that I still try to live my life around. Perhaps you’ve heard it? Here it is:

“You can have everything in life you want if you’ll only help enough other people get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar

Again, I’d love to have you share your favorite “inspirational or motivational” book with me. Just reply back and let me know.

It’s your life, LIVE BIGlive-big-book-cover copy Josh Hinds

My reply back to him was Norman Vincent Peal’s phenomenal best seller The Power Of Positive Thinking. Now this chain of emails between Josh and I started a chain of thoughts that inspired this post. One of my replies back to Josh was to think about his book and in 50 to 75 even 100 years down the road, there will be someone sending out an email (or mental telegraph) most likely asking a very similar or event he same question.

power-of-positive-sizedThe answer? Simple, the information you share today, wether it be on your blog, podcast, or workshop will have lasting affects that at this point you might not even fathom the amount of people your message will help.

Today’s information highway allows anyone (positive or negative) to share their message and help people all over the world for an infinite amount of time. This idea then spawns yet another thought. When you post a Facebook comment, share a blog, record a podcast, or even write a letter to relative supporting them on a venture or maybe an adversity they are facing. Do you ever give any thought as to the ripple effect this information might have? The people it will help when you are sleeping? The amount of people that will experience that aha moment because of a few letters you strung into words that then got strung into a sentence?

It is simply remarkable how today we (meaning everyone on the planet) now have the ability to use our words of encouragement, joy, and reflection to not only find the gold nugget in EVERY adversity but to share that eye opening information with the world and help people on the other side of the globe that have a completely different operating system than we do.

We encourage you to spread your message or courage, belief, and success with as many people as you can. Write or record something today that will change the lives of people tomorrow and from here on out. If you stop, sit down in a quiet spot and really think. You will find a time in your life where you displayed a remarkable amount of courage and conquered some adversity. They way you conquered your adversity can and will help someone somewhere that is going through the same thing.

Share your experiences with the masses and a century from now, they will be talking about you as well.

The New Edison

The New Edison

The 21st Century Edison

[dropcap_5]H[/dropcap_5]ere’s guessing that you have heard the statement that Thomas Edison said to a reporter about the amount of times he failed to create the incandescent light bulb. If not, here it is again for you.Thomas Edison

In preperation for this article and for most of the interviews I have done, more than five hours has been used to research these comments from Mr. Edison and the conclusion is this: Depending on where you go, you will see quotes that Mr. Edison had anywhere from 700 to 10,000 “Steps” as he calls them to creating the lightbulb. Most of the stories we were able to find did indicate that it was a New York Times reporter that asked Mr. Edison this question, or something similar to this (depending on where you look).

“Mr. Edison, how does it feel to fail 1000 times?” And Mr. Edison replied to the reporter

“I didn’t fail 1000 times, the lightbulb was a project with 1000 steps.” I know once again there are many other variations of this reply so this is just one source that I chose to take this from. None the less, we could sit and debate this for countless hours. Some even question the legitimacy of the actual event. Thomas Edison to this day holds more patents than any inventor and lets not forget what amazing inventions Mr. Edison did indeed provide the world that has made it a much better place.

Today we are going to discuss in our opinion our 21st Century Edison and we believe that he will become the next icon for people all over the world to help them overcome adversity the same way people have been using Edison’s quote for years. Sir James Dyson
Sir James Dyson: I love to watch some of the shows they air on CNBC, some are quite amazing and there is one in particular that I truly love it is called How I Made My Millions. The concepts in that show are amazing and they dig right into the heart of companies and share how everything comes together, (the ins and outs if you will) with either the originators or key executives of these companies and show us that in the end, they too are just human like us. The difference is they went for their dreams and didn’t let anyone stand in their way, this episodes was no different This particular show was a step up from the original layout, it was called:How I Made My Billions

Sir James Dyson was discussing the beginnings of Dyson, how and why started the company, and what he had to go through to deliver his first prototype to the world. His dream was to produce products that everyday people use but to improve them, to make them easier to use, to increase the user enjoyment rate if you will. Mr. Dyson started to create his prototypes of his first vacum in his garage (sound like a few other people that started these massive companies you see today?). During this interview, he said himself so this is no urban legend, this is concerete right from Sir James himself. He failed 5127 times before his prototype was even ready to show anyone. 5127 times, he said his friends thought he was completely insane, he went to dozens of banks, the Government, and venture capitalists to get funding, only to be turned down multiple times by them all.

[bq_right] With every failure of the prototypes, I learned something fascinating. Each of these “Failures” brought me closer to my goal.
Sir James Dyson
[/bq_right]

Sir James went to all the major vacum companies like Shop-Vac, Electrolux, etc. You guessed it, he was turned down by them all, they were saying that no one wanted to see the dirt that they just picked up but Sir James believed that the bag-less vacum was not only a more environmentally friendly but the vortex style bag-less suction was also much more powerful.
Sir James Dyson Blade-Less Fan

Since then the Dyson company has grown to exceed revenues of 1.5 Billion in 2011 and they are forecasting greater revenue in 2012. Not only had Sir James reinvented the vacum, Dyson is now making other home products that are taking the world by storm like his blade-less fan and multiple other products that are cleaner, safer, and even more stylish than any of his competitors.

The big takeaway is that if you have a dream, if you believe in yourself, and if you make a choice to overcome ALL adversities that come your way…….
Anything Is Truly Possible Sir James Dyson proves Edison’s theory of his steps to creating the incandescent light bulb, except he is alive today and produces priducts that we might not take for granted like we do lights. Mr. Dyson’s views, beliefs, and perseverance will carry just like Mr. Edison’s did.

Failure To Launch

Failure To Launch
Failure To Launch
Failure to launch your dream life can be a crushing feeling. In his book Fail Up, Tavis Smiley shared a statement that had an extremely impactful emotional attachment. He said ” success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.” What a dynamic statement.

Stopping three feet from gold is so common today. The failure to launch your life can be as fine as a razors edge. Hanging onto your dreams and not letting them fall to the waste side can be a minor adjustment in your thoughts which control your feelings, which in turn create your actions, which then create your results right?

Faulure To Launch

Failure is not the end all of you. Failure means one thing and one thing only. You never found that growth lesson It’s that simple. If you never give up, meaning if you take the growth moment from every “failure” you will find that this word “failure” is just another word in your vocabulary that has this negative belief around it.

The problem with this word is the meanings you have associated with it. The meanings or beliefs about what it means to face it head on and “lose”.

Failure is what you make it, it is what you believe it is. In her book Conquer Fear, Lisa Jimenez shares this profound statement that will make you change these thoughts.

“Change your beliefs-and you change your behaviors, change your behaviors-change your results, change your results-change your life.”

Digest that statement for a while and you will should come to the conclusion that this word failure is just what we believe it is, nothing more. Change your belief about failure and your failure will change as well. Change into what? Great question! What do you believe it will change into?

An Amazing Adversity Story About A Hero In His Field And His Massive Adversity

An Amazing Adversity Story About A Hero In His Field And His Massive Adversity

An Amazing Adversity Story About A Hero In His Field And His Massive Adversity

[dropcap_2]L[/dropcap_2]iving in Quebec most of my life and being born in Ontario, I guess some would say that it is natural for me to “love” snowmobiling right? I mean the joke has always and I believe still is that we live in igloo’s up here in the ole Great White North right?

Snow Storm

Maybe so I guess if you believe in those Urban Legends. Now speaking of legends, this blog is going to focus on a legend that most of you will have never heard of. If you have Well then… You are a “Sledneck” just like Christine and I are. Even though at this point our weekends and extra time is taken up by our children and their social lives, extra curricular activities, and their School work. None the less we still are “Slednecks” to the bone!

I guess first off, what is a Sledneck? A Sledneck is a group of people that ride snowmobiles to the ultimate EXTREEM. Not just the extreem, we mean it when we say the ULTIMATE Extreem. Have a look here at a video from You Tube.

Now that is extreem snowmobiling!
This is also where our story of overcoming adversity begins!

[dropcap_2]H[/dropcap_2]ere is another accomplishment above and beyond what you saw in the video on Paul Thacker. Paul holds the world record for the longest snowmobile jump, he flew over 300 feet from ramp to ramp. He is an icon in the snowmobiling world, he is fearless AND he is also now overcoming one of the biggest adversities anyone of us can face. Here is the video of his world record jump.

On November 18th 2010, Paul was practcing for the upcoming season when he had an accient. Read the whole story Here. Paul now has no feeling from the chest down, he is now facing the biggest and most challenging moment in his life. What is it that takes us from the top of the world down into a place where you need to choose to either create a legacy of fall away into the darkness? My personal belief is “A Decision”.

[bq_left] Hello all! Its PT checkin in! Wow things are crazy as usual! I have been traveling all over. I have been doing physical therapy daily and rehab like you read about! Things are really going well. Things are improving and I am doing my best not to let this injury slow me down one bit.
[/bq_left]

To the left is a segment of a post that Paul added to his blog. (Check Out Paul’s Blog Here).

If you have had or especially if you have yourself been through anything like this. No one can really every even begin to imagine the feelings and emotions that would shoot through you like a lightning bolt. To one day have full use of your body, then the next not is something above and beyond anyone’s imagination unless you are living it. There are two roads you can take if you hit a trajectory point in life such as this.

One road can lead to great things such as helping others believe in themselves, achieve their dreams, understand how they too can overcoem the adversity they face, and give people JOY, Inspiration, excitement, and mos tof all belief.

Then there is a second road you can take, this is the road to defeat, the road to darkness, the road to a place, I believe, none if us really want to go. So you can:

[list type="arrow teal"] [li] You can choose to be defeated, to lay down and let what ever is going to happen happen.[/li] [li] You can begin a new chapter (As difficult as it will be), you can start creating YOUR legacy to leave with the world [/li] [/list]

Paul Thacker has taken the road less traveled, the road to leaving not only his legacy in the snowmobile industry but his new and even more profound legacy.

The legacy of not letting an accident control his life

Paul knows he is the CEO fo his life and he has made an irrevocable decision to help others and be their inspiration. Today Paul is on the road with Ekso Bionics sharing his story and providing hope, inspiration, and most of all belief that you too can overcome

Stepping Out On The Ledge

Stepping Out On The Ledge

If you’re not living on the edge, You’re taking up too much space

If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space

To achieve our vision, dreams, aspirations, and goals, we need to stand where most never go. That is out on the ledge, we need to put ourselves out there and step out of our comfort zone into the challenge zone.

Being in the challenge zone allows you t grow and develop in ways that you never thought were possible. There are two way to operate in this universe one is creating and one is disintegrating, what path would you want to walk? Down the path of creation I am sure, we all would.

In order to achieve your vision, your big dream, or your massive aspiration, you need to step out on a ledge and take chances. There is no other way to go about it. That ledge can create obstacles that you have never encountered before, as well as create a view to see the path you need to take.

Step out on the ledge with all the other people who changed the lives of so many people. This will help you not only lead the pack but grow in the process.

Grow today for a better tomorrow
